In the beginning of the semester, we learned about wetlands and how they benefit the environment. We first observed the wetland, Famosa Slough, and walked around it noticing different things. We then formed groups and observed different aspects about the wetland. The group I took part in, compared the air quality around the Famosa Slough and industrial or commercial areas. We tested the air quality using a CO2 monitor and compared the different measurements each location gave. The group researched air quality and how poor air quality affects humans negatively. After, a research paper was created about our process, research, supplies, and our thesis on which location had the cleaner air quality. |

In humanities, we were able to create a visualization of the solution for climate change that we chose for our final argument essay. I chose renewable energy, since I was interested on what it is and how it can be better for the environment. We started this small project by deciding what we wanted our picture to look like and what drawings we will us to trace. Once we traced each picture by hand and scanned it into the computer. From there we worked on editing it on photoshop. After all the images were finished the class created a book and exhibited the visual representations. |
In biology, the class was given the opportunity to create a propaganda-like poster of an impact or solution to climate change. I was able to research the Great Smog of London during 1952. The Great Smog happened because fog and smoke from pollutants (automobiles and factories) are combined to create smog. London has a lot of fog, therefore it accumulated and created a dense smog for a few days. The smog had a strong stench and it was difficult to breathe in it. This led to deaths from respiratory issues and a negative impact on the environment.
